Pics: Nelson Mandela Film Festival launch in NYC!

Last night, on a windy NYC day I had the pleasure of attending the pre-launch of the Nelson Mandela Film Festival.

His Royal Highness, Nkosi Zwelivelile (Mandla), chairperson of the Mandela International Film Festival and grandson of the late Nelson Mandela was on hand to discuss the festival & the importance of telling the AfriCAN story.

He gave a great speech about his beloved grandfather & guys we were all enthralled. The heir to the throne knows his stuff, can you imagine dating back your history from the 16th century? He recited all his forefathers with no hesitation, it was great to see!

That's why it's so important that we not only document but share our story with the world!
The chief's speech was so great, everyone was tuned in & present. Just soaking it up!

I really enjoyed the wine too. It was by African House...yummy!

Guests of the launch also got an opportunity to sign this huge mural of Madiba that will be displayed at the festival

This is such a cool initiative. They did the launch to coincide with the TriBeCa Film Festival currently happening in NYC. They are serious about selling SA as a destination hub for film & TV production!
I had a great time! The festival will take place from December 3-12 2015 in Port Elizabeth and is expected to be the biggest film festival in the southern hemisphere. The Eastern Cape Government and the Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency are backing the project.
